Spotted Flower 5

Mediafire Download

Hobo-1, if you're reading this and plan on continuing Spotted Flower, drop me an email and let me know. I'm just doing this because it looks like you've dropped off the face of the Earth. I tried to emulate your font choices so if you pick up from the next chapter, (probably) nobody will notice.

Anyway, if you read and follow Genshiken, you probably know what this is. If you don't, here's a brief summary: Kio Shimoku, the mangaka of Genshiken, is releasing very short installments of a new series, Spotted Flower,in the thrice-a-year magazine Rakuen Le Paradis. The story is about a married couple who totally are not Genshiken's Madarame Harunobu and totally not Kasukabe Saki, dealing with the events leading up to the birth of their first child.

Hints are dropped everywhere that the couple actually are Madarame and Saki, including in the title itself: the character "mada" as in Madarame means "spotted," while the character "saki," when used as a verb and not a name, means "to bloom." So, yeah. Nobody quite knows why Kio is doing this, but hey, I'm not complaining.

If this is your first introduction to the series and you're interested in starting, you can find the previous chapters easily enough online, both to download and to read online.

Otherwise, enjoy.

P.S. Bet you totally didn't notice that the imaginary son has the exact same hairstyle that Madarame has right now in Nidaime.

  3. You can continue with it no problem as Hobo-1 closed its doors last December or November. All Hobo-1 scanlations uploaded by Hobo-1 on Nyaa torrents were taken down by Hobo-1 himself http://www.nyaa.eu/?page=torrents&user=83201 according to Nyaa staff. Few other users also stated Hobo-1 quit scalating. It would be nice if you can also pick up two other Hobo-1 projects Hetakoi and Kono S o, Mi yo!.

    1. I didn't have any plans on picking up any new series at all, but Spotted Flower is short, has an extremely infrequent release schedule, and is by a mangaka I really like. Also, I did it because I really wanted to read it and then once I'd read it, it would feel kinda dickish to sit on the raws without doing anything.

I'm not planning on picking up Hobo-1's lineup in its entirety and I'm sorry if anything I said misled you into thinking so.

    2. Is there a post online where I can read about this?

And does anyone know where to find Hobo-1's previous releases for download?

    3. Spore, the SakiMada community greatly thanks you on your desire to not be dickish. :3 I didn't even realize this short series existed until you made this post. Thank you, as always, for your hard work!

  5. Thanks for being awesome, Spore. Kio is probably trolling us, but I Want To Believe.

    1. Haha, so do I. Kio did comment a long time ago that he wanted SakiMada to work out, but he couldn't figure out a way to make it happen. Most probably, Spotted Flower is him just saying "How? Who cares? I don't." and just jumping straight into the bits he wanted to tell.

  8. Thanks for the release! Any series dropped by Hobo-1 that gets picked up will be met with enthusiasm. I mean, look at me, I'm totally fangirling right now. Ahem. Thanks again! Finally, my SakiMada delusion (or not...?) continues!

(Amusingly enough, I was hoping you'd pick this up, considering it's from the same genius behind Genshiken. I can't thank you enough. I'm also one among those who hope to see more Hetakoi and Kono S o, Mi Yo! (mind you, not [necessarily] from you). Man, such a shame. Hobo-1 left us hanging. I hope he's doing well, anyway.)

  13. I was beginning to think that we would never see more of this manga and to lose hope. Thank you so much for picking this up, it's much appreciated!

  14. I noticed for the hair thing (though I thought it was only because it's the same artist). Well, I sure do not hope that it's those two. Not that I'm against it but I prefer them apart.

Anyway, as I loved Genshiken, I fell in love with those four first chapters. SO, thanks a lot for picking this up. Now let's feast on the fifth chap ~

  15. As I read Spotted Flower, the wife seems to be channeling Ogiue more than Saki at this point. The current chapter seems to reflect more of Ogiue's helplessly tsundere personality. Saki could be tsundere in her own way but not like this. Saki was always more tsun because of her stronger personality.

    1. I can see your point, but I still think the way she kinda screeches at times is total Saki. Saki also has this way of being really blunt that nobody else in Genshiken really manages (because she's a normal, perhaps), and I think that comes through a lot in Spotted Flower's chapters.

  17. Sorry to burst your bubble about spotted flower but those characters arent saki and madarame.

http://konomanga.jp/interview/33082-2/2 Interview with the manga creator Kio

It's in Japanese but you'll probably be able to understand it if you use Rikaichan.

Basically, he says that the main characters of Spotted Flower were based on the concepts "love" and "otaku" and that he's having fun with the look-alikes but
when he's asked if he's drawing it as a sort of Genshiken spin off he says no. That if that was the case, he would have never done Spotted Flower.

Not to mention in chapter 20 the grandma sugggests they name the baby saki (which they do) after making fun of it for being in another manga, aka the wife couldnt be named saki or they wouldnt have made the other manga refrence.

I know some fans want that but sadly spotted flower isnt about saki and madarame, it is two totally different characters that are based off of them, it is called an Expy ( http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Manga/SpottedFlower here is a link you can click on expy to get definition or look it up)
