Baccano! 1933 - THE SLASH - Bloody to Fair: Epilogue & Remnants

The Epilogue is the end of The Slash storyline, but there is actually more to the book itself. Like the name implies, the "Remnants, or New Prologues" more or less lead into the 1934 Alice in Jails/Peter Pan in Chains arc (volumes 8~10). This book also includes the second author's midword I've ever read. Enjoy.

Baccano! 1933 - THE SLASH - Bloody to Fair: Color Pages and Connecting Chapter

I must apologize in advance for the rather dismal quality of Claire and Maria's color pages. I've pretty much ripped them as is from my artbook scans and blown them up, so that's why they look so dodgy.

The color page here with Miria and Isaac is one of my favorite parts of this arc (out of many favorite parts, granted), and it's not even related to the story proper. Hahaha. Enjoy.

Baccano! 1933 - THE SLASH - Cloudy to Rainy: Connecting Chapter

I'll refrain from giving my own thoughts on the book until I'm done with The Slash in its entirety, but I just wanted to say that I wouldn't normally use the word "slash" so much, but seeing as how it's the theme running through this arc, I included the word more than usual to, uhh, bolster that. Would that the arc had been named "The Cut" instead.

Enjoy, and remember! The story's not over; The Slash is composed of two books!

Baccano! 1933 - THE SLASH - Cloudy to Rainy: Chapter 2

The kid in Jacuzzi's gang who goes "Hyaha!" all the time is named Chiny (Chiney? Chini? Whatever it is, it's probably a nickname), and according to the wiki she's a girl. She expresses every one of her emotions with "Hyaha," from distress to good humor to anger. You can see her in episode 15 of the anime, about eight minutes in, where she pops up out of the blue and says "Hyaha." Everything else about her is apparently mentioned in one of the gaiden novels that shipped with the DVDs, which I haven't had the chance to read. So yeah, that's that.

Yes, Donny does talk like a caveman. Fang doesn't talk like a stereotypical Chinese person, but he does have an accent.

The connecting chapter is only about twenty pages long, so that should be out soon enough too, and then we'll be on to book 7. Enjoy.

Baccano! 1933 - THE SLASH - Cloudy to Rainy: Chapter 1

I don't think the repeal of the American Prohibition worked quite how it's written here, but eh. I'm not entirely comfortable with rewriting exposition from the author like that.

I did take some liberties in translating Isaac and Miria's dialog, though; somehow I don't think expressions like gyafun and watarinifune would work very well in English.

Oh, and in case you didn't notice, I've scanned the Baccano artbook, which you can find here. Just a heads up.

Enjoy.

Baccano! 1933 - THE SLASH - Cloudy to Rainy: Chapter 0

I love doing Dallas' monologues. He has this casual way of swearing that's quite amusing.

I think this "translate a little bit every day instead of waiting in vain for the mood to strike and ending up with big fat periods of nothing" method is working very well for me. We'll see if this keeps up.

Enjoy.

Baccano! 1933 - THE SLASH - Cloudy to Rainy: Color Pages and Prologues

I admit this wouldn't have taken nearly as long if I hadn't started scanning the artbook halfway through it. Oh well. Enjoy.

Credit to danbooru for the textless pic with Tack and Tick. Thanks to contributor-who-wishes-to-remain-anonymous for the other scans.

Tick has this elongated way of talking with dashes (Remember the dashes? Specifically, remember what i think about Narita's dashes? Raargh!) that really doesn't translate well into English. I've just written it normally in the interest of readability. If you want, picture it as a sort of breezy lisp like Yamaguchi Kappei's take on it.
