Took long enough, didn't it. My raw for this volume has pretty sloppily merged spreads, and for some reason half the scans were in RGB color instead of greyscale, and what's more they're completely fucking out of order Jesus Christ.
Whatever. Finally triple digits. Enjoy.

The Art of Enami Katsumi: BACCANO!
I think Tick and Maria are quite fitting to head this post, considering what I'm translating at the moment. |
Mediafire Download
Took a while but here it is. This is the artbook Enami Katsumi released in early 2010, featuring about 60 pages of Baccano illustrations as well as forty-odd pages of other assorted work he's done. Hope you enjoy. It's my first time scanning something and either my scanner was horrible or I'm horrible at scanning (quite possibly both), so I have no idea how these things stack up to normal artbook scans.
Genshiken is still on the way as are all other translations; you can blame TEPCO and the Japanese government for being such bumbling fools that I can't concentrate on anything but editing. We'll see if I can manage something tomorrow.

Genshiken being continued, hell yeah
Hell yeah, motherfucker. |
Also, the "short-term limited run" of Nidaime's been officially changed to a normal run. It's continuing!
As for the scanlation, well, I'll try to get it out as fast as I can. It's words words words and lots of stroked text, though, so it might take a while.

Baccano! 1933 - THE SLASH - Cloudy to Rainy: Chapter 0
I love doing Dallas' monologues. He has this casual way of swearing that's quite amusing.
I think this "translate a little bit every day instead of waiting in vain for the mood to strike and ending up with big fat periods of nothing" method is working very well for me. We'll see if this keeps up.
Enjoy.

Nyaaargh
Halfway through and I'm this close to going mad.
Now I get why most people who scan artbooks don't really bother to do more than just scan them and upload as is. I could just be bad at this, but god damn this is insane.. Hahaha. If all goes according to schedule I should have this done in a week or so.
Sample under the cut, tell me what you think. This is the cover to THE SLASH, novels 6 and 7.

Baccano! 1933 - THE SLASH - Cloudy to Rainy: Color Pages and Prologues
I admit this wouldn't have taken nearly as long if I hadn't started scanning the artbook halfway through it. Oh well. Enjoy.
Credit to danbooru for the textless pic with Tack and Tick. Thanks to contributor-who-wishes-to-remain-anonymous for the other scans.
Tick has this elongated way of talking with dashes (Remember the dashes? Specifically, remember what i think about Narita's dashes? Raargh!) that really doesn't translate well into English. I've just written it normally in the interest of readability. If you want, picture it as a sort of breezy lisp like Yamaguchi Kappei's take on it.

Volume 10 will take a significantly longer time per chapter; the raws are of worse quality so I'll actually have to pay attention while editing instead of pretty much pressing ctrl+alt+l and being done with it. Just thought I'd let you know. Enjoy.

Bambino! Volume 9, Chapter 96
Mediafire Download
As I said up there, I feel sorta silly for declaring a hiatus and then starting right back up again a few days later, but eh. Things are still bad, but I suppose they're at the level of "I need something to get my mind off of it for a while" instead of "I can't concentrate on anything because things might go kablooey back home" now.
Anyway, nobody will ever convince me that Kozue's fujoshi fantasies aren't the best part of this arc, hands down.
Also, notice that Senoh calls her Kozue-san now instead of Minagawa-san? He's getting somewhere!

Don't really expect anything from me for a while. I'm a bit too worried to really concentrate on anything at the moment.

Argghh
Does anyone know how to scan artbook double page spreads with overlapping illustrations so that I can just merge them together in photoshop and be done instead of having to redraw the parts that don't match up and then struggling with leveling one page to try and make it match up with the first one? I mean, I can do it, but it's an incredibly time-consuming process.
edit: Thanks for the comments. I think I have things figured out now.
What's next on BACCANO!

I've spent the past few days checking on relatives and friends in Japan, so that's why there were no updates. Didn't really have the energy for translating. Thankfully none of them were in Tohoku at the time, and they're all more or less fine.
Things should be back to normal now.

Bambino! Volume 9, Chapter 93

It's been a year since my first post on this blog. Happy birthday, blog!
A look at the translations tab says I've done 110 translations of some sort or another since I started this thing. That puts me at an average of a little under one translation of something every 3 days. Not bad considering I took months-long breaks at several points along the way.
Though, considering that a chunk of those are light novel chapters... Eh.
Well, that's that for this first year. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to translate some more Baccano while listening to Takagaki Ayahi singing. Good day, sirs.

Guess what came in the mail today
Oh God marry me now |
Pardon my horrendous scanning skills; I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I just shoved the damn thing in there and pressed the button.
Anyway. I haven't actually read it yet, but I've flipped shamelessly through it to look at the pictures (as an aside, I'm fairly certain this is how light novels are meant to be read--first you flip through and look at the pretty pictures, then you read). It's set after El Baile de la Muerte, by the way, and the name seems to be Ballad of the Sinful Wizard. Apologies on my translation of the name changing all the time, but I just noticed the furigana above 哀歌.
The book is short, about 2/3 the length of Shaitane Badi, and unlike Shaitane it's made of very short chapters, about 10 to 20 pages each. Each chapter is from the PoV of a different character, though some characters get more chapters than others. Obviously Eda and
That's about all I can say without spoiling the book horrendously (and I haven't actually read it yet, either), but I must post just this one thing that I had to scan and show you.
Spoiler below the cut! And it'll only make sense if you've read Shaitane Badi:

Phew, volume 8 over.
Bambino's gonna be on break until I finish Shaitane Badi, which should hopefully be by this weekend. Then it'll be business as usual with volume 9 of Bambino and book 6 of Baccano.
I think that's about it?
