So about Genshiken

You might have noticed that all the posts on this blog that previously hosted Genshiken chapters are gone, and so are the mediafire links to them. I was not the one who took them down. You might see where this is headed.

Long story short, Kodansha USA isn't exactly thrilled at my illegal pursuits and so I'm counting myself lucky that I even still have a blog at this point. Soooo, you won't be seeing any more translated Genshiken on this blog. Sorry.

Thankfully Kodansha's own licensed translation is apparently pretty good, so if you live in the US go out and buy it! Support Genshiken and all that jazz.

  2. While I agree their translation is pretty good, I despair at the thought of waiting... months to read my all time favorite manga.
I do have all the 10 volumes so far (next will be out in a week) and the Genshiken official book as well.
I'm glad you haven't been persecuted more for doing such a great service to me and all the other fans, who don't speak Japanese. Well, that's one more reason for me to learn the language...
    Thank you~

  3. It's within the best interest of the manga that you stop the scanlation of it now that it's legally available in NA. I know it sucks that we have to wait for it to catch up and such, but at least with purchasing it we contribute back to Kio Shimoku sensei for all his hard work. I personally usually stop reading the scanlations once a manga is licensed.

I do thank you for your efforts in this and am glad you have the decency to halt your scanlation once it's been made clear to you that the licensor wants you to stop. Many scanlators wouldn't and that isn't right.

    Thanks

  4. Mediafire has been purging a TON of stuff lately, so it wasn't just you. They are afraid of being taken over by Big Brother, as has happened with another, giant fileshare site a while back.

  5. As long as we have handsome devils. You'll still be missed after all that great work.

  11. This makes me sad. Thanks for your hard work up to this point, Spore. I've greatly enjoyed your translations.

  12. Well, it was a fine ride as it lasted :) Thanks a lot for your work!

Could you at least share your thoughts on the current and coming chapters? You don't have to translate them, but if anyone does the translation I would appreciate it if you would keep doing at least this^^

  14. First English volume of second season releases next week (2013-3-19).
    Price is good ($11).

Waiting for the next FULL volume when you just want the next chapter, however...
yeah, that's gonna be a pain.

    1. The first volume has been out since late last year, 3/19 is the date when the second volume of second season manga is coming out. I still remember freaking out and instantly buying it when I was at the bookstore.

  16. Thanks for all the good work and perseverance. I hope this does not ruin the soon, (epic) Yonensei debut. This will be a milestone in Shimoku-ology for us outlanders. And if some other group or individual were to pick up the task of Genshiken, I hope that the discussions here about the chapters can carry on in some form. They are really quite good!

  17. Thank you for your work on the series. This was very sad to hear. I wish you didn't have to take down the previous posts because your blog is about the only place where I have seen civil, decent discussions of S2, but I get that copyright holders might not have been satisfied with just the links being taken down.

  18. In many places your translations are better than the ones currently being published.

As was totally predictable, when they make stuff for us over here in Puritan Land, they take out anything that might offend some Texas momma. There's a comment in Chapter 67 that you translated as referring to someone getting screwed in the ass. That ref. was much needed to show just how nasty the fujoshi women were to Maderame in that chapter.

Even in the big world of the Internet, we in the USA can't escape ourselves.

    1. I haven't noticed any censorship. Kodansha USA's translation has been very close to what Spore wrote.

  19. Please continue discussing the chapters no matter who takes up the cause translating them.. With a series like G., It is soooo easy to miss things.. kei iich%n/Genshiken is dead too, no more "This month's episode was..." threads...

Tada haru no yo no yume no gotoshi.

  20. Thanks for all your hard work! Your translations were always a refreshing breath of fresh air, so I'll definitely be sure to follow your current projects.

    Keep up the good work!

  21. Sorry to hear that. But thanks for your hard work AnonSpore. I know it takes a huge amount of hours and work to make each chapter. Really appreciate your hard work espeicially since its all for free.

  22. Sigh, that's really disappointing when Kodansha USA has no online medium like Shonen Jump Alpha to get Genshiken out faster. It'll be at LEAST a year before the official english volumes catch up to what's been published in Afternoon this month. (For what it's worth, I already own all the books and had planned to buy each volume of Nidaime as it was released).
