I'm not dead yet, just busy

Also if you're one of those people who still has not given up hope for Bambino Secondo, another team is doing it over here so check it out. I haven't read it myself so I can't vouch for the quality but I haven't heard any complaints, either. So have fun with that and sorry for the delays.

Status Report

I'm in the middle of a several month long project that involves translating a lot of dumb boring books. Also, Dark Souls. But mostly the former. Sorry. I'll make another post when this is over.

Hiatus Notice

As some of you may know, the Lord of Terror is returning to the world of men on May 15. That is, tomorrow.

I depart on a journey to slay the foul demon and banish him to the Black Abyss for the last time.


In other words I'm gonna take a break to play Diablo 3. I'll be back when the next Genshiken chapter comes out, around the 25th of this month. Until then, peace.

Bambino! Volume 12, Chapter 121

I mentioned this before but since the bridge to be burned is now actually in sight I feel compelled to tell you all: I do not have workable raws for volume 13, so if they don't magically appear by the end of this volume Bambino will be going on indefinite hiatus. The alternative to the magical scan appearance thing would be the equally magical and equally sudden (and equally unlikely) appearance of an editor who would be able and willing to put in the time and effort required to make the raws look presentable (by my standards, which are either high or low depending on how one looks at them), which would entail a lot of work per chapter.


That of course doesn't solve the problem of volume 15's raws being even worse.


But yeah. Just throwing that out there. For now, enjoy the chapter.


Edit: Yes I do have the raws that are posted on rawscans/rawmanga/rawwhateversiteyouprobablywillinkme. I'm sorry if this comes off as terse but I've been sent the links for the same sites about a dozen times. Take a look at the quality of those things. I'm not the best editor, so scans like this (text removed to avoid spoiling y'all, but otherwise untouched) would take me far too much time and effort to make them look decent. Them's the breaks.

Long story short, my extended family wants to take a ten-day trip to South America and I have been conscripted invited to come along. Sorry I couldn't get anything done in the few weeks I was back, but then again I suppose those of you who're familiar with me and my extended disappearances aren't too terribly surprised. In lieu of an actual update on anything, I guess I'll take this opportunity to give you all a heads up on how things are going to go once I get back.

I am aware that Daitai Sonna Tokoro has picked up Genshiken. I gave the first chapter they did a brief look and I think I'll be doing my own versions. DST, if you're reading this, ベタ refers to the inking step in drawing manga; ホワイト refers to white-out work. Among other things.

Bambino and Baccano are still being done. To those of you who asked, no I am not certain I'll do Bambino Secondo once I'm done with the first series. It has proved more taxing than I anticipated. Baccano, I intend to keep going in order until it either gets licensed in the west, season 2 is announced, or I catch up to Narita.

Ballad of the Sinful Wizard is iffy. If I do it it'll be some time pretty far in the future. If I decide not to do it I'll post a huge spoilery summary one day with most of the plot points and juicy tidbits that're in there (Revy and Eda's real names, Shenhua's past, the names of Rotton's guns, etc.) for you Black Lagoon fans out there.

(Un)fortunately, I didn't like Hanamonogatari enough to dump yet another light novel series onto my workload, so unless something changes in the future, you won't see any more Bakemonogatari from me. Goddammit, Suruga.

I think that's about it. See you in about ten days.

I'm back

Kinda. Expect either a tremendous flurry of stuff coming up as I get back on track, or a long period of nothing as I spectacularly fail to get back on track. For now, adjusting to jet lag. Cheers.

Sort of Hiatus Notice

I'm going to drop by Japan and Korea for about a month to check up on relatives and friends starting May 24th, and I won't have access to Photoshop. This means that Bambino and possibly Genshiken (if I can't get someone to do that one for me) will be on hiatus. I will be taking whatever volume of Baccano I happen to be working on (most probably Bloody to Fair) with me, but in all honesty I probably won't get much of that done, either.

Just an early heads up.

Certain fans have told me that they prefer absolute accuracy even at the expense of a little readability; after careful deliberation, I have come to agree with them, and subsequently have decided to present my translations in a manner that is entirely legible in English while still providing maximum accuracy.

I've included a preview to let you know how things are going to be from now on! Expect the full chapter in a day or two!

Nyaaargh

Halfway through and I'm this close to going mad.

Now I get why most people who scan artbooks don't really bother to do more than just scan them and upload as is. I could just be bad at this, but god damn this is insane.. Hahaha. If all goes according to schedule I should have this done in a week or so.

Status Report

Don't really expect anything from me for a while. I'm a bit too worried to really concentrate on anything at the moment.

Argghh

Does anyone know how to scan artbook double page spreads with overlapping illustrations so that I can just merge them together in photoshop and be done instead of having to redraw the parts that don't match up and then struggling with leveling one page to try and make it match up with the first one? I mean, I can do it, but it's an incredibly time-consuming process.

Status Report

I've got a friend coming to stay at my place for a few weeks to sightsee and such, so updates will probably be very few and far between. I'll try and get out the Black Lagoon chapter at least since I'm almost done with it, but besides that it's likely there won't be much coming from me until early February at the earliest.

There's a PDF version of Children of Bottle compiled here, which is pretty awesome. They didn't use my edits of the images especially the color ones I spent hours on yeah I know right but for those of you who may want to read the Amazing Adventures of Czeslaw Meyer and Minions Friends somewhere that's not on my dinky blog, there you have it.

Rumors of my death...

...are (sadly?) unfounded.

Rumors of my staying up till god knows when in the morning to watch the World Cup and generally partying, however, are not. Sorry to all of you who've been waiting for releases and especially so since I promised to tell you all if I went missing.

Schedule is as follows:
1. Watch the World Cup.
2. Finish the current volume of Bambino.
3. Finish the volume of Baccano I'm stalling on.
4. ???
5. ?!?!

So yeah. That's me in a nutshell right now. Go Germany!
